Projects Smart garden

Smart garden

A garden that identifies what is planted in it and waters accordingly, rather than on a timer.

When
Aug 2022 - Jan 2023
Context
The University of Texas at Dallas
Built with
Closed-loop control, Sensor integration, Control systems

Problem

Timer-driven watering ignores what is actually growing. Different plants want different light and different soil moisture, and a fixed schedule gets both wrong.

Approach

Built a bed that classifies whichever plant is growing in it and measures temperature, humidity, and light at soil level, then closes the loop: it drives the grow lighting and runs a pump to hold moisture where that particular plant wants it.

Outcome

Watering and lighting driven by the plant and the conditions rather than the clock.
